why is this here?

hi, i'm aidan! or aidangs as i usually go by on the internet.

i try to keep my real face off the internet as much as i can these days, so please imagine i'm this depressed anime frog instead.

his name is shimogamo yajiro and he's from an anime called uchouten kazoku if you're curious

anyway i'm not really sure what i'm doing here or what this site is gonna be but i felt like making it and it exists now so here we are.

i've dabbled in coding here and there over the years and even went to school for it for a couple semesters before dropping out for ~reasons~ but this is the first time i've actually tried using those skills in years.

why? well, the short version is that the internet sucks and i wanna make it better. here's the long version: i've been on the internet since my parents got me my very own computer for my 10th birthday, in the year 2004.

since that time i've been part of a large number of internet communities, fan groups, forums, messageboards, you name it. these kinds of communities, for better or worse, shaped me into the person i am today.

because of them i was exposed to people and places and ideas from all over the world that a shy kid from rural illinois wouldn't have even considered otherwise. but when i look at the state of

things on the internet today, what i see genuinely makes me sad. all-encompassing social media platforms that do the online equivalent of throwing everybody in the deep end and hoping things work out

are the norm, with all the myriad issues they bring along. people are more concerned with engagement and numbers than actually sharing anything worthwhile, to the point that ragebait becomes commonplace.

and the corporate owners of these platforms are intent on making as much money as possible, user experience be damned. so! i felt like doing something about it, even if it's something as small as this silly little

website. i'm gonna try and make it a nice little corner of the internet dedicated to the things i love. watch this space.
